“It doesn’t make sense to call ourselves ugly, because we don’t really see ourselves. We don’t watch ourselves sleeping in bed, curled up and silent with chests rising and falling with our own rhythm. We don’t see ourselves reading a book, eyes fluttering and glowing. You don’t see yourself looking at someone with love and care inside your heart. There’s no mirror in your way when you’re laughing and smiling and happiness is leaking out of you. You would know exactly how bright and beautiful you are if you saw yourself in the moments where you are truly yourself.”—
Girl from my class:
But suicide is kind of selfish. Do people who kill themselves even think about how much they hurt their friends and families?
People who kill themselves have a fucking illness called depression. They feel mentally alone even though they may have friends or other people who care about them. They can sit in a room full of people and feel so lonely inside. Yes, they do think of the people around them. But they feel like those people don't need them or don't really care. Could you take it to feel lonely all the time? Could you take it to feel like everyone's better off without you? Could you take it to hate yourself for not being good enough for anyone? No, you couldn't and other people can't either. So don't you dare to say that suicide is selfish because it's fucking not.
